Whether you are planning to visit Nashville for a quick weekend getaway, or you are planning to spend your next vacation in the city, there is plenty of things to see and do while you are in 'Music City'.

Even though Nashville is internationally known for its hot chicken and country music, there are several other attractions that the 'Athens of the South' has waiting for you.

When you are exploring the city, there is one important rule that must be followed. You absolutely cannot avoid the attractions, highlights and activities that you have likely heard about many times before. Even though, they may seem 'cliché', they are cliché for a reason.

So, what should you see while you are in Nashville?

Soundwaves

This is an indoor and outdoor waterpark that is located at the Gaylord Opryland Resort. The waterpark features a lazy river, adult bars, a massive movie screen for those who want to watch their favorite flicks poolside and big slides. It also features lots of cabana action as well.

Even though the waterpark was designed to accommodate guests of the hotel, it also offers all types of deals for local residents such as room discounts and the ability to reserve day parties. The term 'staycation' may sound lame to many, but Soundwaves will give you the feeling that you have embarked on a dream vacation without having to board an airplane.

Do not worry, this is one attraction that overdelivers on its promises.

Ryman Auditorium

Ryman Auditorium is the most well-known music venue in the city of Nashville. Also known as the 'mother church of country music', this attraction was originally the building for the Union Gospel Tabernacle Church. It was built in 1892. In addition, the Grand Ole Opry also called the building home at one time.

This is a landmark that not only attracts locals and visitors, it also attracts anyone who wants to be on stage performing. The building has amazing acoustics and it allows singers to be able to sing to their hearts content in ways that they may not be able to at another venue.

Artists from all genres have a true reverence for the venue. If you are attending a show, arrive early so you can enjoy a backstage tour.

The Band Box

This attraction is located in the right field of the First Tennessee Park. The Band Box is considered to be one of the coolest places to hang out during the summer while watching the Nashville Sounds play minor league baseball.

The concessions at this attraction are in a class all by themselves. Enjoy the gourmet renditions of the typical hotdogs, burgers and fries with the addition of options such as quinoa chopped salad, jalapeno corn fritters and empanadas. There are often specialty dishes that are served up when guest chefs arrive.

In other words, this is not your everyday typical ballpark food. You can even receive table service here.

Lower Broad/Broadway

This is, perhaps, the one attraction that has visitors hiring professional movers Nashville services to help them with their relocation and transition to the city.

Broadway is referred to as the Lower Broad by residents from the older generations. It is the honky-tonk filled streets that has become the city's nod to Bourbon Street in New Orleans.

This landmark has changed throughout the years. There are less locally owned honky-tonk and two-stepping bars and more bars owned by celebrities. However, older venues like Robert's Western World are still standing and are the places to be if you want to hear Western Swing by some of the best in the industry.

The Grand Ole Opry

Ever since 1925, the live radio show has provided a variety of different performers from all music genres including:

- Gospel

- Country

- Bluegrass

This attraction will give you the quintessential Nashville visitor's experience. The venue hosts shows at least two times a week. These shows are held on Fridays and Saturdays, and extra shows are on Tuesday nights.

For the majority of the year, the shows are recorded at the Opryhouse located in Music Valley. During the holiday season, the shows return to their original home, Ryman Auditorium.

These are just 5 of the many attractions that you must visit when you are in Nashville. With music, food, fun and history all in one location, it is one of the cities that can change visitors to residents as soon as they arrive.
